Designing With Web - Part 3: week 1

Improve moving out experience for students with smart cities

Group 25

Project 1: Green move out

Context

when? where? who? why?

In a few years, cities will be more and more pedestrian and connected. Thus, we want to create green connected parking in huge cities via an app to facilitate the moving out for students (know when a parking space is vacant) and reduce pollution (less drive time). When moving, transportation issues are many and worrying. This is even more true for students, who are often relocated on a regular basis, in the city center, and on a tight budget. Which vehicle to use? Will I arrive in front of my apartment and not find a place? Will I have difficulty accessing? Etc. All logistics related to the move can quickly be binding. Moreover, cities tend to become more and more pedestrianized, with restricted access to vehicles in the center. There are sometimes access terminals, sometimes access completely blocked. The more you find yourself parked far from your apartment, the more complicated the move. Find the right vehicle, enjoy student rates often granted but rarely known (example of carrefour location that offers 30% to students, but you have to ask, it is difficult to find information), arrive in town delivery days or of events, to meet with friends who wait a long time because of slowdowns related to all these problems, such are the difficulties that one can meet. Connected car parks are more and more likely to arrive in our cities, and in a few years, big cities such as Paris, Lyon or Marseille will be more and more connected (it is already the case of Nice which proposes to know in real time available places, see even book them). In pedestrian areas, some vehicles must still have access: deliveries for shops, etc. Spaces are dedicated. Over time, we may be able to reserve these spaces for justified reasons, such as a move. Transport has also evolved, including individual. Self-service vehicles are already available (autolib in Paris, Bluely in Lyon ...). Also, the collaborative economy is taking off, and exchanges, loans, purchases, rentals of goods & services between individuals is becoming more common and extends to many sectors. Offers concerning vehicles adapted to move should very soon see the light of day, and are sometimes even accessible. However, nothing is centralized and it is sometimes tedious to get all this information / tips. Finally, the cities want to be more and more connected, and the improvement of the traffic is one of the priorities of the communities: fires, intersections, affluence, we can already in several cities in China, in the United States and even in France (example of Nantes) know in real time traffic, how to avoid traffic jams. This information & services can greatly facilitate a moving experience, to avoid unforeseen and wasted time. However, a day of moving is often loaded and the slightest unexpected can shift the entire schedule, which complicates an already exhausting task.

Target

for whom?

The organization of a move out is always a brain teaser, especillay for students who aren't used to it. With our connected parking, people and especially students with a tiny budget for whom we will implement a student rate, and who are respectful of the environment, will be delighted with this innovation. This application is particularly useful for students because there are tips to know everthing that there is to know when you move out such as the "trendy" neighborhoods, websites' links to buy cheap fournitures, the metro and bus stations nearby etc. Indeed, not only does this app aim to facilitate the struggle of finding a parking spot and to reduce Co2 emissions thanks to electric cars that we can rent; but it also aim to make students' lives easier thanks to low prices and very useful tips.

Service offered

what? how?

This application offers a lot of services to students. When moving out, it is often that they need a truck to move their things. The complicated thing is most of the time to find a vacant spot at the right time time not far from their new home. The application will let them know in real time when there is a spot vacant and where to park. The parkings, outside or inside, will be greener and connected so it allows people to reduce their gas consommation while moving out. Students have a discount as usually they try to save money. The concept is green for the planet, useful and allows students to move peacefully and without a lot of spending.

Project 2: The moving out robot

Context

when? where? who? why?

The idea of this project is to create delivery robots and control them through an app. They are self-service in the city in order to facilitate the moving out for students.

Target

for whom?

Have you ever struggle to move out due to the heaviness of the cardboards ? Thanks to our innovative solution, people will be relieved from this weight. Indeed, this product aims everybody, but in particular students. In fact, as a move out is very expensive, this innovation enable students who don’t have a driver licence, who live in a city with expensive commute transportation, or in a small city badly served, to move out simply and cheaper.

Service offered

what? how?

Moving out can be expensive and buying new things to accomodate your new home can be challenging and time and money consumming. The concept that we thought of is to implemente delivery robots in the city, so they will be used to move the students to exchange some of their furniture or buy some without waiting for days or pay a fine for transport. The robots will be moving throught the city like cars, but they will be autonomous, safe and fuelled by electricity.
